Syracuse Department Of Public Works Receives Two New Sanitation Trucks For Recycling

The City of Syracuse Department of Public Works (DPW) received two new sanitation trucks the week of May 18 to be used for recycling collection. DPW received another new recycling truck earlier this year in February.

The trucks, referred to as “packers,” were purchased in the 2019 fiscal year for $165,000. The City will qualify to be reimbursed fifty percent of the total cost of the trucks from recycling grants available through the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.

“We’re continuing to make smart investments in the City’s fleet operations so we can better serve our constituents” said Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh. “In addition to the three new sanitation trucks, over the past year with the support of the Common Council we have authorized the procurement of 10 new snow plow trucks and hired a new fleet manager to make sure we’re delivering services both effectively and efficiently.”

The fleet maintenance plan currently in place will prioritize ongoing evaluation of truck conditions and repairs to maximize each truck’s term life.
