Update: Saturday High School Football Game Postponed Due to Killing of 17-Year-Old in Sleepy Hollow

The stabbing occurred in Barnhart Park Friday night. A suspect has been arrested.

Update at 12:20 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2015: The Sleepy Hollow High School Homecoming football game against Somers - scheduled for 1:30 p.m. today - has been postponed due to Friday night’s fatality.

Police said the victim was a New Jersey resident, but The Journal News reports the 17-year-old boy was a former student of Sleepy Hollow High School.

District officials released the following statement on the school system’s website:

“Due to a tragic incident in our community, today’s Homecoming game has been postponed. Please let your friends and neighbors know. Counseling will be provided throughout the weekend to any Sleepy Hollow High school students who might need those services.”

Original story: A 17-year-old New Jersey resident was stabbed and killed late Friday night in Barnhart Park in Sleepy Hollow, and his alleged assailant has been apprehended, according to police.

The Journal News reports the incident occurred at about 11 p.m., but police have yet to disclose the identities of the victim and the assailant.

According to police, the suspect is a Yonkers resident, who was taken into custody a few hours after the incident.

Details surrounding the case also are being held close to the vest for the time being, but members of multiple law enforcement agencies, and the county District Attorney’s office, reportedly are investigating.
