We thank Hackley girls basketball coach Shelagh Amann for taking time out to answer our questions and congratulate her and her team on its historic campaign:

It was truly a year to remember for the Hackley girls baskeball squad as the Hornets garnered the Ivy League championship as well as the NYSAISAA Class C State title.

In addition to those incredible achievements, Hackley finished the season 23-0, becoming the first girls basketball team in school history to go undefeated.

"This group of girls was both focused and determined the entire season," Amann said. "They are still so excited and proud of this accomplishment."

Amann felt her team was as successful as it was because it played exceptional defense - holding opponents to only 33.2 points per game.

She said what also was important was the rapport her players had with one another.

"It was also an extremely close group of friends both on and off the court," Amann said.

Coppola Garners 1,000

Leading the way for Hackley was sharp shooter Allie Coppola, who went over the 1,000-point mark for her high-school career this past season.

"Allie Coppola is a hard worker," Amann said. "She is such an enthusiastic player. She loves the game and pushes herself always to get better and better. Allie does want to play in college - happily she is only a junior!  She is visiting a lot of schools this week as Hackley is on Spring Break."

Mueller's Game-Winner

For those who would like to relive Alexandra Mueller's game-winning shot that gave the Hornets a 35-33 victory against Poly Prep March 4 at Fieldston and a state title, see Kevin Kurtz' story on MSG Varsity which has a cool video, that includes Mueller's championship-clinching basket and celebration afterwards.
