GREENBURGH, NY — A Hudson Valley driver is facing felony charges after an alcohol-fueled tear across two counties, according to police.
On Friday, New York State Police assigned to SP Tarrytown arrested 35-year-old Tulsiram Singh, of Haverstraw, for aggravated DWI.
At 10:56 p.m., troopers responded to a vehicle fire on the New York State Thruway (I-87) south, near mile marker 14 in Greenburgh. Upon arrival, troopers spotted a man walking north on the southbound shoulder, away from a 2023 Nissan Frontier which was fully engulfed in flames.
Troopers began interviewing the man, who was identified by police as Singh, who was the driver of the Nissan. Troopers say they noticed signs of alcohol impairment and performed standardized field sobriety tests and a portable breath test, both of which returned positive for impairment.
Investigators say Singh struck the concrete barrier on the Thruway before his vehicle came to a stop, and that prior to his entry onto the Thruway, he struck several parked cars in the Palisades Mall parking lot.
Singh was arrested for DWI and taken to SP Tarrytown for processing, where he submitted to a chemical breath test indicating a blood alcohol content of 0.21 percent.
Singh was charged with driving while intoxicated, and aggravated driving while intoxicated (BAC 0.18 percent or more).
Singh, who was not injured in the vehicle fire, was released to a sober third party and is due in Greenburgh Town Court on May 4.
Announcing the arrest, the New York State Police took the opportunity urge drivers to use the STOP-DWI Have a Plan app to help them get home safely. The free app allows users to contact a taxi service or ride share, program a designated-driver list, or report a suspected impaired driver. The app is available for Apple and Android smart phones.
