Volunteer Opportunities Of The Week: Riverkeeper Sweep

Every week, Patch will spotlight volunteer opportunities in the Hudson Valley courtesy of Volunteer New York!.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Each week, Patch will be highlighting volunteer opportunities in the Lower Hudson Valley, courtesy of Volunteer New York!. This is a chance to help your community and be an opportunity to give back — perhaps in a way you didn't consider before.

This week, we are putting the spotlight on some opportunities in the Hudson Valley.

Riverkeeper Sweep

This annual event helps keep plastics and other debris from entering the Hudson River. Gloves and trash bags will be provided, but volunteers should wear weather-appropriate clothing and bring their own water and sunscreen. Volunteers will also be "sweeping" the Hudson via stand-up paddleboard. This event is held rain or shine and is perfect for families and kids.

Date: 5/2 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m.

Trail Supervisors

Trail Supervisors oversee a team of Trail Maintainers and ensure the trails in their assigned area are maintained and in good condition. All Trail Supervisors receive training and shadow current supervisors; volunteers must be 18+. Supervisors are needed for Fahnestock State Park and Hudson Highlands State Park

Mindfulness and Yoga Counselors

Volunteer Mindfulness and Yoga Counselors are needed to share their professional background and skills with the clients and staff at My Sisters' Place by leading guided mindfulness, meditation, or yoga sessions. Volunteers must have a certification or training in a relevant field and experience leading group sessions in person and online. Volunteers must be 18+.

Fundraising Advisory Committee

Fundraising Advisory Committee members are ambassadors and connectors who leverage their networks and professional expertise to expand Hudson Valley Justice Center's reach and strengthen its fundraising capacity. Members provide strategic guidance on fundraising approaches, make introductions to potential donors and partners, and help open doors that staff can then walk through to cultivate relationships and secure support. The Committee serves as both an immediate resource for fundraising growth and a potential pipeline for future board service. Committee members do not have fiduciary or governance responsibilities.
