GREENBURGH, NY — It seems in one Westchester town there are not small cases, only petty criminals.

A recently purchased bicycle reported stolen in Greenburgh on July 8 was recovered later that morning, and a Bronx man was arrested, according to the Greenburgh Police Department.

Police said the department received a report about the cruel theft at about 9 a.m. from the Tarryhill Way area. The bicycle had been bought as a gift for a child who lives in the Town of Greenburgh, according to the department.

Responding officers began investigating right away and obtained surveillance footage as well as a partial license plate number for the suspect vehicle, according to police. The information was then broadcast to surrounding law enforcement agencies.

Later that morning, members of the Greenburgh Police Department Drug and Alcohol Task Force located the suspect vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. Officers recovered the stolen bicycle from the vehicle’s back seat, according to the department.

The suspect was identified by police as Randolf Kranwinkel, 30, of the Bronx. Police charged Kranwinkel with petit larceny, fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and resisting arrest. The charges are all misdemeanors, according to the department.

Police said Kranwinkel was arraigned and released on his own recognizance. The bicycle was returned to its owner, according to the department.

In a statement included in the department’s account of the case, police wrote, "Great work by all of the Greenburgh Police Officers involved in this case." No additional details about the theft, the arrest or the arraignment were released in the information provided by police.
