HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Paying a toll to cross the Cuomo Bridge can be taxing, but not nearly as expensive as taking illegal steps to avoid those tolls.
State Police Troop T recently conducted ghost plate/toll enforcement detail on the NYS Thruway at the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge as part of ongoing efforts to address the use of missing, altered or obscured plates used to avoid tolls and evade traffic cameras.
Over 300 tickets were issued, including for suspended or unregistered vehicles, unlicensed operators, speeding, cell phone use, no seatbelts and violations of the Move Over Law.
In all, 28 vehicles were impounded for unpaid tolls.
The Troop T Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit also participated to enforce safety standards and regulations for commercial vehicles. CVEU conducted 33 inspections, with more than a half-dozen vehiclestaken out of service due to safety-related violations. 118 non-out-of-service violations were also issued, including for equipment, permit and registration violations, according to NYSP.
