Attempted Armed Robbery in Sleepy Hollow
A check cashing store was targeted by a suspect displaying a handgun.
A check cashing business on Valley Street was targeted during a Friday morning armed robbery attempt.
At about 7:56 a.m., an employee of Samaras Check Cashing located at 175 Valley Street was entering the premises to open for the day, when a black male, possibly Hispanic, attempted to force the employee into the building while wielding a silver handgun.
The employee, who wouldn't go on the record, was able to force the door closed and get into a key-pad accessible safe area to call police.

The suspect then fled the scene, entering a white van and driving off in an unknown direction. Video cameras located outside the check cashing business were able to capture the getaway vehicle.
The suspect is described as being about six feet tall. He was seen wearing a black jacket with the hood up, a black scarf and black gloves.
