Black bear seen in Greenburgh today...Scarsdale yesterday

and a bear sighting in Hastings earlier this week

NYS DEC TO SPEAK AT NEXT TOWN BOARD MEETING ABOUT BEARS --WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU SEE A BEAR June 24 7 PM

A black bear was seen at Boulder Ridge condo's-off of Jackson Ave, Sprain Road, Ardsley Road this morning. A few days ago a bear was observed in Hastings. And, yesterday a bear was seen in a driveway in Scarsdale. Please be careful. I have spoken with the NYS DEC and they advise that bears show up when there are loose fitted garbage containers or birdfeeders. Please remove loose fitting garbage If you see a black bear never run away or approach the bear. Make as much noise as possible. Be safe. NYS DEC won't remove the bears unless they pose safety risks. Black bears are also attracted to kiddy pools.

NYS DEC won't remove the bears unless they pose safety risks. I called them yesterday. I have invited the NYS DEC to make a presentation to the Town Board and community on June 24th- our next Town Board meeting at 7 PM Our meeting is televised. The speaker:; Emily Carrollo, a Wildlife Biologist at the NYS DEC. We will tape the meeting, create a you tube and share it with residents. My guess: the bears are here just like the deer and coyotes and foxes. And we will have to learn how to live with them.
