Bleat on the Tracks

Riders on the Hudson Line got some sheep thrills this morning when a wayward ungulate strayed onto the train tracks.

This sheep headed south on the Hudson commuter line Oct. 22. But it graciously waited until after the morning rush, so there were no delays for Metro North’s passengers into and out of New York City.

The sight—unusual for even the toniest of Westchester suburbs—caused a stir on social media.

The sheep was on the tracks north of Philipse Manor station at about 11:10 a.m., Metro North spokeswoman Meredith Daniels said.

“Maintainers were able to safely shoo it back to a nearby gate from where it escaped,” she said. “They then closed the gate. Service was not impacted, but we had trains operating at restricted speed on all tracks through the area until there was word the sheep had been cleared at 11:31 a.m.”
