A new feature of this annual event is called “The Art of the Reproduction — Recreating Period Textiles.”
This part of the program covers the skills, talents, techniques, and materials needed to reproduce period textiles. It also examines the use of these techniques as modern hobbies, looks at their historical value as vital commercial skills, and covers how they played an important part in the educational training of women in the 18th century.
A fashion show presents 18th-century outfits — both high-style and working-class — and includes critiques by HHV’s expert costume designer. A lunch menu includes Shepard’s Pie, veggie chili, and homemade ice cream.
An interactive exhibit in the site’s Manor House is called “Wearable Wealth: The Value of Cloth and Clothing in the 18th Century.” There will also be special photo opportunities for children.
