Celebrate the 50th anniversary of the publication of Robert A. Caro's&nbsp;The Power Broker, the monumental work that has been called “surely the greatest book ever written about a city.” This groundbreaking book made known for the first time how Robert Moses, over more than four decades and without ever being elected to public office, amassed power so immense that with it, he shaped New York.
This virtual presentation explores the story behind the book: how Caro uncovered the falseness behind the image that Moses had so carefully cultivated, and that the press and public believed, to reveal the extent of Moses’ power and the heartbreaking human cost behind his public works.Hosted on&nbsp;Zoom. Musicologist Scott Freiman will take you on a multimedia track-by-track journey through this Beatles masterpiece, explaining the inspiration for the songs and their evolution in the studio. In many music polls, Revolver is rated the top album of all time. On its 60th anniversary, you’ll revisit memorable songs such as “Eleanor Rigby” and “Yellow Submarine” and uncover how the Beatles pushed popular music to a place it had never been.
About Scott:
Scott Freiman is a composer, a musician, and a software entrepreneur. He is the CEO of Qwire, which creates collaborative cloud-based software that addresses significant problems with music licensing and royalty payments for film and television. He is the creator of Deconstructing The Beatles, a series of multimedia presentations about the composition and production techniques of the Fab Four. Scott has presented his lectures to sold out audiences throughout North America at theaters, museums and corporations, such as Pixar, Google, and Facebook. He has also lectured at colleges and universities and has taught a 13-part course at Yale University entitled The Beatles in The Studio.

Charis Chamber Voices celebrates America’s 250th birthday with Songs of Democracy: Friday April 24 at 7:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of New Canaan, 178 Oenoke Ridge Road, New Canaan, CT, and Saturday, April 25, at 4:00 p.m. at Reformed Church of the Tarrytowns, 42 N Broadway, Tarrytown, NY. Charis’s Artistic Director, Jeremy Wiggins, conducts, accompanied by Terence J. Flanagan at the piano.
The all-American program includes Howard Hanson’s Song of Democracy, his setting of a Walt Whitman poem that celebrates the country’s youth, vigor, and destiny. Fern Hill, by John Corigliano, on a poem by Dylan Thomas, is a nostalgic evocation of childhood with just a hint of what was to come. Works by Aaron Copland and Randall Thompson and familiar American favorites round out the program. 
Charis’s famous wine and cheese reception will follow each concert. We look forward to sharing this birthday bash with you!

The U.S.A. is celebrating 250 years of independence, and the nation’s music reflects its exuberant, questing spirit. Guest Conductor Teresa Cheung leads a program with all the colors of the American soul.
Morton Gould’s “American Salute” uses the melody “When Johnny Comes Marching Home,” for a salute to America’s World War II allies.

Charles Ives’ “Variations on ‘America’” presents that familiar piece in an entirely new way, as only Ives’ imagination could invent.
African-American composers are well-represented on the program. ESO presents W.C. Handy’s swinging “St. Louis Blues,” Florence Price’s soulful Concert Overture No. 2” and William Grant Still’s blues-haunted “Afro-American Symphony.”
ESO’s late Music Director, William Eckfeld, composed “Fanfare for Hackley” for brass choir, in honor of the orchestra’s participation in Diller Hall’s inaugural season.

One of America’s foremost violinists, Jackiw (pronounced jak-eef’) captivates audiences with playing that combines poetry and purity with an impeccable technique. Ahfat has been described as an artist that “leaves no question about his riveting presentation and technical finesse.” (Seattle Times) Their program will include: Arvo Pärt: Fratres, Handel: Affetuoso and Allegro from Sonata in D Major, HWV 371, Prokofiev: Violin Sonata No. 2 in D Major, Op. 94a, Conrad Tao: All I had forgotten or tried to, Brahms: Sonata No. 3 in d minor, Op. 108.
