Friends of The Warner Library Concert: A Mother’s Day Chamber Recital

Some names in travel are more than just modes of transportation – they end up becoming legends.
This talk explores how three extraordinary vehicles – The Orient Express, RMS Queen Mary, and Concorde – rose to become enduring symbols of innovation and adventure, as well as redefining what it meant to journey in style.​ Through a closer look at their groundbreaking design and technology, the imagination that shaped their creation, and the passengers and crew who brought them to life, we’ll travel back in time to discover how these iconic experiences transformed the way the world moves and how they continue to inspire us today.

Join The Hudson Valley Writers Center (HVWC) and Hudson Valley Books for Humanity (HVBH) for Draft n' Drink! Meet us for an evening of writing prompts and exercises, a beverage, and a fun and casual environment where we can write creatively in community. Participation in the guided writing exercises is voluntary, and participants can share their work in small and large groups towards the end of the session.&nbsp;

Details and Dates: Doors open at 6:30 pm for event starting at 7:00 pm. Register online through this ticket link to secure your slot and to give our facilitators a number of participants. Pre-registration and ticket purchase is required.&nbsp;Admission is $20.00 and includes a complimentary beverage.

Facilitators:

Dominika Wrozynski is the Program Director of the Hudson Valley Writers Center and author of American Accent, winner of the Sinclair Poetry Prize from Evening Street Press. She is also the author of Dear Charis:, a chapbook co-authored with Sarah Grieve (forthcoming in August 2026). For 22 years, she has taught creative writing and literature. Her poems have appeared in journals such as Crab Orchard Review, The Spoon River Poetry Review, Rattle, Five Points, Nimrod, Birmingham Poetry Review, New Madrid, and many others.


Kenny Finkle’s (playwright) theatre work spans both traditional and non-traditional forms and has been produced and developed nationally at such places as The American Repertory Theatre (URSTAR), Ars Nova, the Orchard Project, the DR2 (Indoor/Outdoor), Keen Company, Trinity Repertory, Dallas Theatre Center, The Old Globe (Alive and Well), The Hangar Theatre as well as in people’s apartments. His plays are published by Broadway Play Publishing, Concord Theatricals and Smith and Krauss. His most recent play Touch received the 2024 Project Advancement Award from Solo Flights/Theatre Aspen and was produced in March 2026 at the East Village Basement starring Anthony Rapp. In addition, he has received a NYFA grant and NEA grant (through the Keen Company) for his eight-part audio epic 1993 (also directed by Silverstein) produced as part of the Keen Company’s Hear/Now season. You can listen to Kenny talk obsessively with culture expert Mark Snyder on their very popular podcast All I Want to Do is Talk About Madonna (available on all platforms). Kenny is Associate Professor of Theatre Arts at Marymount Manhattan College where he coordinates the Writing for the Stage concentration. We’re celebrating the winners of the 47th Young Artists Concerto Competition at the Yonkers Philharmonic Free Concert on May 9, 2026 at 3:00.
First Prize Winner, Ben Puts, from Yonkers will perform the first movement of Lalo’s cello concerto, which reflects Lalo's Spanish-inflected Romanticism — restless, colorful, never predictable. The writing is idiomatic and demanding, showcasing the instrument's full expressive range from deep, resonant lows to singing upper register passages.
Second Prize Winner, Taira Matsumoto from Pleasantville introduces the saxophone as a solo concert instrument with Glazunov’s Concerto for Sax. Cast in a single continuous movement, the opening theme, lyric and aristocratic, displays the alto saxophone's uncanny ability to sing like the human voice.
Third Prize winner, Yuto Lim from Harrison completes the celebration of our Westchester high school students with the 1st
movement from one of the most beloved violin concertos ever written, Mendelssohn's E minor Concerto.
The Yonkers Phil will open the concert with Strauss Fruhlingstimme (Voices of Spring) This sparkling concert waltz distills everything that made Strauss the undisputed King of the Waltz. Tchaikovsky’s stirring March Slav will open the second half of the program.It unfolds from a solemn, folk-tinged opening to a triumphant conclusion incorporating the Russian Imperial anthem.
It will be a wonderful afternoon celebrating three talented Westchester high school students. Come and bring your family and friends.

I'm currently working with a Pleasantville HS senior on academic writing and college prep, and figured I'd reintroduce myself more broadly as summer prep season approaches. 
 I made a free worksheet for the most common writing problem I see: a thesis that's true but too vague to argue. It walks through three tests (specific / contestable / significant) and the four traps thesis statements usually fall into.
