Captain's Corner: Sleepy Hollow Trounces Peekskill

Horsemen had a 'Devil' of a time in walloping the Red Devils.

It was a red devil of a time for Sleepy Hollow football Thursday night. The Horsemen pounded the Red Devils into the ground with their running game and then let it fly, en route to a thorough end-to-end 32-6 shellacking of Peekskill.

Sleepy Hollow bought into the game plan of running the ball up the Red Devils' nose in the first half. They were methodical in finding gaping holes for senior halfback L.J. Garrant to barrel through. The Horsemen controlled the clock early, executing blasts up the middle and around Peekskill's defensive unit.

After an exasperating loss to longtime rival Ossining last Saturday, Sleepy Hollow shattered the mirrors off the big Horsemen bus. They are only moving forward from here on in. The bus hopes to make a stop in playoff territory and a thrashing of this caliber could send them in that direction. Everyone left their fingerprints on this victory, with Steve Borys emptying out his bench during the late stages of the third quarter.

While the ultra-intense rivalry game loss was a tough pill to swallow, Sleepy chose not to let the loss linger. They instead used the heartbreaker as motivation.

In this week's Captain's Corner, Sleepy Hollow's seniors talk about the prospects of a playoff berth, the clamp down operation the defense executed against Peekskill, and next week's barometer game at Byram Hills.

Senior Wide Receiver Jake Warren

On The Much-Needed Win:

"It feels great. We had a tough loss last week and we just really let loose today. It was a great team effort and everyone contributed."

On Wearing Down Peekskill Offensively:

"We really embraced the ground game to shred their defense. We ran the ball, ran the ball, ran the ball. Then, after establishing the running game, we aired it out."

On The Defense

"We all applied pressure which really prevented them from racking up much yardage. (Seniors) Tommy Fahey and Zeke Sierra did a great job applying pressure. Peekskill didn't score on our defense, they had a pick six. It was an all-around group effort and we were able to reap the rewards of it."

Senior Quarterback Nick Vallo

On What Propelled Sleepy Hollow To A Wire-To-Wire Blowout:

"The losses and the fact that we know playoff contention is on the line. So, we play every play like its our last because if we lose...then it basically is."

On The Matchup Against Byram Hills:

"We play Byram next week and they picked us for their homecoming game. So, of course we want to go in there and spoil it for them."
