Season highlights include a all-time win record breaking 116th victory for Justin Seim, which set the momentum for the second half of the season, into the Stony Brook Duals, with victories over Stony Brook, Stepinac and Salesian. Finally, with wins over Trinity, Croton, and Poly Prep, the varsity wrestling squad was ready for the postseason.

At Ivies, the entire team wrestled with tenacity and poise, with first place finished by Will Johnson, Justin Seim (4X Champ), and Xavier Carmona, second place finishes by Sam Welch, Andre Newland, Damis Yancopoulos, Rodrigo Mejias, and Ben Jurcic, and third place finishes by Mike Tarantino, Matt MacFarlane and Chris Breen. The team placed third overall.

In the last dual meet of the season, Hackley beat Rye Country Day, avenging last year’s loss to the Rye squad, and finishing home competition in a fashion of which all could be proud of.

The team entered the State Tournament at Long Island Lutheran High School with high expectations, and preformed well, with Will Johnson and Justin Seim taking first, Xavier Carmona and Ben Jurcic taking second, Sam Welch and Rodrigo Mejias taking third, Stephen Zak, Dan Shaw and Andre Newland taking fourth, and Damis Yancopoulos and Milo Lempert taking fifth. The team again placed third overall, behind Horace Mann and Long Island Lutheran.

This season saw many individual and team accomplishments, including an amazing fifth state title for senior Justin Seim (career record of 138-19) with 321 takedowns and 70 pins, over fifteen dual meet victories for the wrestling team as a whole, and Coach Fran Stanek’s 100th career victory. After a season in which wrestlers of varied ages and experience levels contributed on the varsity level with success, it is clear the outlook for next year is bright.
