Dangerous Heat, Thunderstorms Possible All Weekend in Tarrytown

It’s hard to keep track of all the different advisories issued by the National Weather Service this weekend. The National Weather Service, in fact, has three special notices on its Tarrytown-Sleepy Hollow weather page:

What this all adds up to is it’s going to be hot, likely dangerously hot if you’re outdoors for prolonged periods of time, and there will be several chances beginning today and continuing through the weekend for fast-moving thunderstorms that pop up out of nowhere. Any storms will be capable of producing torrential rainfall and localized flash flooding, the National Weather Service warns.

The biggest factor will be the humidity.

While stifling days are not uncommon during the dogs days of summer, humidity levels will make it feel more like the Deep South than the Northeast, AccuWeather meteorologists said.

  • Today: Scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly after noon. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Partly sunny, with a high near 94. Heat index values as high as 103. Southwest wind 6 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
  • Tonight: Scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly before midnight. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 78. West wind 3 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
  • Saturday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Partly sunny and hot, with a high near 95. Heat index values as high as 106. West wind 5 to 9 mph.
  • Saturday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 10pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 78. South wind 5 to 7 mph.
  • Sunday: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 11am. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 91. West wind 5 to 9 mph.
  • Sunday Night: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 74.
