Dobbs Ferry Resident Wants to Represent 92nd State Assembly District

Dobbs Ferry resident Anna Sterne announced she will seek the Democratic nomination to represent the 92^nd District in the New York State Assembly – the district includes Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow.

Sterne made the announcement on Monday in a released statement. The release said she is "the kind of political outsider who has worked successfully in the non-partisan world of school boards to effect real change," and will "bring new ideas and a fresh perspective to Albany."

Sterne described herself as a lifelong Democrat, with "21 years of public service to the non-partisan organizations supporting and managing the schools in her community."

She has served on the Dobbs Ferry school board for eight years and is a mother of four children who have gone through public schools. Sterne works as a nurse and has a Masters in Public Administration.

Sterne said she would focus on education issues, and how to reduce the local tax burden by seeking state funding for schools and removing unfunded mandates. Other than education and tax issues, Sterne said she would promote "vigorous regulation of the private health insurance companies" and "lifting the regulatory burden and tax surcharges levied on our small businesses."

Sterne has launched a Facebook page and a Twitter account. A website set up for the campaign, www.annasterne2010.com, was not working at the time of publication. On her Facebook page she said she is seeking campaign workers to help get petitions filled out in all the villages represented in the district.

Sterne is the second member of the Democratic Party to announce their candidacy for the state seat that is being held by Richard Brodsky. Brodsky, who first won a State Assembly position in 1983, will not be running for reelection and has decided to throw his hat into the race for State Attorney General (for the second time).

Tom Abinanti, a county legislator from the 12th District is also seeking to represent the Democratic Party on the ballot for the 92^nd District. Abinanti, a Greenburgh resident, has already set up a website for his campaign which states that he "brings extensive experience in the legislative process, a real understanding of our community and a deep concern for our quality of life."

Both candidates need to collect hundreds of signatures before a July 15 deadline. If both Abinanti and Sterne have their petitions verified by election officials, they will go head to head during the September 14, 2010 primary. Who wins will face the Republican challenger for the seat in the November 2 election.

So far for the Republicans, Thomas Bock has announced his run in the 92^nd District.  Bock, was a chief of the Elmsford Fire department and oversaw computer networks for major companies in his professional capacity. He ran a failed attempt to capture a seat in the county legislature's 8th District last year – that seat is currently being held by Alfreda Williams.
