Drought Conditions: Tarrytown, Sleepy Hollow's Work Week Weather

There are some chances for rain in the next five days around Westchester County.

According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, Rockland, Westchester and a bit of Orange County are experiencing moderate drought conditions, as is Long Island, and most of New York is classified as abnormally dry.

The Drought Monitor reports they're seeing declining streamflows and a lack of rain over the past 90 days (less than half of normal) across much of the Northeast.

Locally, rain could come Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday — but even then the chances are low.

"The heat will hold for Sunday and into Monday, when we actually may see some humidity levels rise just a bit," said Bill Potter of Hudson Valley Weather. "As we move into Tuesday and Wednesday, it appears like the humidity will rise… and we’ll have a chance of scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Something we could certainly use. Our drought situation continues to worsen…"

Here's the forecast from the National Weather Service for southern Westchester:

Today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 81. South wind 8 to 14 mph.

Tonight: A 20 percent chance of showers after 10pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 66. South wind 8 to 11 mph.

Tuesday: A slight chance of showers, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 77. South wind 7 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Tuesday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8pm, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 8pm and 11pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 11pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 66. Southeast wind 5 to 8 mph becoming light and variable after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Wednesday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 4pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 82. North wind around 6 mph becoming west in the afternoon.

Wednesday Night: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 9pm. Partly cloudy, with a low around 64.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 83.

Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 65.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 84.

Friday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 66.
