Elizabeth Warren Endorses Candidate To Replace Nita Lowey
The presidential candidate has thrown her support to one of the many candidates in the race.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — The race to fill retiring Rep. Nita Lowey's seat in Congress received an endorsement from a presidential candidate. Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Massachusetts, endorsed Mondaire Jones Tuesday for the Democratic nomination to represent Congressional District 17, which is comprised of Rockland County and parts of Westchester County.
"Mondaire Jones knows that we're in a fight to put power in the hands of working families," Warren said in a press release.
"With Mondaire in Congress, we'll gain another chance to achieve the hard-fought wins that bring us closer to big, structural change, and I'm glad to stand with him," she said.

Jones, 32, of South Nyack, is a former litigator in the Westchester County Law Department and former Department of Justice staffer during the Obama administration.
He said that not only did he not ever imagine that he would run for Congress one day or that a leading contender for the presidency would take an interest in his campaign.

"I'm proud to have the support of Senator Warren, a true progressive who has shifted the political dialogue, not only within our own party, but throughout the entire country."
Jones said Warren has been an advocate for the big, structural policy solutions required to meet the big, existential problems of the day, through policies such as a Green New Deal, student debt forgiveness, Medicare for All and universal child care.
"I'm honored she is standing with me in this fight," he said.
Jones had announced a run to challenge Lowey for re-election. At the time, he described himself as "a 32-year-old, openly gay, black man."
Other people running for the Democratic nomination include Assemblyman David Buchwald, Sen. David Carlucci, Asha Castleberry-Hernandez, Evelyn Farkas, Allison Fine, County Legislator Catherine Parker and U.S. Attorney Adam Schleifer.
Harrison businessman John Eisen is running for the Republican nomination for the the 17th congressional district.
