Good Samaritan Struck, Injured On Thruway

The man was offering help to two motorists on the Cuomo Bridge who had been in an accident.

GREENBURGH, NY — A Long Island man, trying to help two other motorists who had a crash on the Gov. Mario M. Cuomo Bridge, was struck and injured by a van.

The New York State Police said the accident happened around 4:45 a.m. Wednesday on Interstate 87 in the town of Greenburgh.

Michael E. McCutchan, 61, of Westbury, was standing in the left-center lane offering help to the two other drivers when he was struck by a commercial van, driven by Francisco A. Lopez Flores, 39, of Bay Shore, police said.

McCutchan was taken to Westchester Medical Center with serious injuries.

Police said no other injuries were reported, and the crash remains under investigation.
