Greenburgh To Appoint Interim Police Chief
The town supervisor said the permanent position is expected to be filled next year.

GREENBURGH, NY — The town of Greenburgh will appoint an interim chief of police.
The town board will hold a special meeting Tuesday and is expected to appoint George N. Longworth, Esq., as interim chief, according to a news release.
Supervisor Paul Feiner said Longworth will not be a candidate for the permanent replacement for Chief Chris McNerney who was chosen in October as police chief for the Larchmont Police Department.

The town expects the results of the recent police chief civil service exam to be finalized in May or June, and the town board will select from the top three candidates.
Longworth, a practicing attorney, is the former Dobbs Ferry police chief and former commissioner of the Westchester County Department of Public Safety.

He grew up in Greenburgh and spent most of his adult life in Westchester policing.
Longworth began his police career in 1982 with the Dobbs Ferry Police Department and was named chief 10 years later.
He was elected president of the Westchester County Chiefs of Police Association in 2000, and in 2007, he retired from law enforcement and created the personal injury law firm Grant & Longworth LLP.
A graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, Longworth serves as adjunct professor of criminal law and forensic science as his time allows.
