Greenburgh to hold 3 auctions in 2026 on foreclosed properties

Delinquent taxpayers: There is still time to work out payment plan. Potential purchasers: e mail legal@greenburghny.com to be notified

The Town of Greenburgh will hold three auctions this year on properties that have not paid taxes for many years. If you owe back taxes, there is still time to avoid the foreclosure. You can work with the Receiver of Taxes and the Town Attorney on payment plans. I’m always happy to meet with you and to introduce you to non-profits or social workers who have provided valuable advice and help to other residents over the years. I have written numerous letters to delinquent taxpayers warning the residents that the longer they wait the harder it will be to get caught up. I have met with many delinquent taxpayers providing them with information how they can get the help they need. Penalties and interest on late payments add up quickly. I have also advised the taxpayers that last year the Town Attorney and Town Board retained the services of an experienced law firm that specializes in foreclosures.
If you are interested in purchasing a property via the auction process- please e mail legal@greenburghny.com. Ask that they notify you of the auction dates and properties that will be auctioned off. My e mail is pfeiner@greenburghny.com. My cell phone is 914-438-1343.

After going through an RFP process, we have selected an auctioneer, Absolute Auctions, and they will be formally retained in the coming weeks. Once retained, the town will hold an auction for the properties that have not paid taxes. The expectation for this year, contingent on cooperation from the foreclosure part of the Supreme Court, is to have three auctions. These auctions would cover the 2013, 2014-2015 and 2016-2017 liens and will likely occur in the spring and fall. Article 11 in rem proceedings are very technical by nature and we must ensure that every step is followed timely and precisely. It takes a long time to foreclose on properties.

We should be caught up to the current lien year within the next 3 years.
PAUL FEINER Greenburgh Town Supervisor
