Guilty Plea Entered in Sleepy Hollow Stabbing Death

Police said the defendant had sought out the victim intending to hurt him.

SLEEPY HOLLOW, NY — The 17-year-old Tarrytown man accused of stabbing Tahj Robinson to death pleaded guilty Friday.

Berinzon Moronta, of Storm Street, was charged with first-degree manslaughter, a felony, Acting Westchester County District Attorney James McCarty said.

On October 9, 2015, around 11:12 p.m., police responded to a 911 call that someone had been stabbed inside Barnhart Park in Sleepy Hollow.

They found Robinson, 17, lying on the ground bleeding from various wounds. He was unresponsive.

Robinson was take to Westchester medial Center where he was pronounced dead at 11:54 p.m.

Police said an investigation revealed that Moronta and several other people had gone to the park to find and hurt Robinson.

Moronta approached Robinson ad began stabbing him with a knife, resulting in multiple stab wounds to the torso, including wounds to his heart and lungs.

Moronta was arrested October 10, 2015 by Westchester County police, in a joint investigation with the Sleepy Hollow Police Department.

He remains in jail, with his sentencing scheduled for September 14, 2016.

Moronta faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life.
