Hazardous Weather Outlook Issued for Tarrytown

The National Weather Service has issued both a Hazardous Weather Outlook and an Air Quality Alert for all of the lower Hudson Valley.

The National Weather Service cautions that thunderstorms this afternoon could produce isolated damaging wind gusts.

The Air Quality Alert, which is in effect from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Thursday, means that “ground level ozone within the region may approach or exceed unhealthy standards,” the National Weather Service states.

Southern Westchester County is also under a Flash Flood Watch in effect from noon Thursday to 6 p.m. Thursday.

Details on today’s possibly stormy weather:

Showers and thunderstorms are expected mainly after noon with temps near 90 degrees, with the humidity pushing the heat index as high as 97. A half inch of rain is possible for the whole day. More storms are possible up until midnight.

• Today: Showers and thunderstorms, mainly after noon. Some of the storms could produce small hail, gusty winds, heavy rain, and frequent lightning. High near 90. Heat index values as high as 97. Calm wind becoming southwest around 6 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
• Tonight: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before midnight. Patchy fog after midnight. Otherwise, cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 68. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
• Friday A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 94. Heat index values as high as 97. Light and variable wind becoming west 5 to 7 mph in the morning.
• Friday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after midnight. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 71. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
