Suspect Arrested In NYC For Shooting Death Of Woman In Tarrytown

Port Authority police said they apprehended the shooter in New York City.

TARRYTOWN, NY — The person wanted in shooting death of a Tarrytown woman was arrested in New York City by Port Authority Police Tuesday. The shooting suspect was taken into custody at a Port Authority Bus Terminal.

The victim whose name has not been released was pronounced dead from gunshot wounds, lohud.com said.

The incident caused a manhunt that prompted area schools to go into lockout Tuesday.

A woman was shot at the Sleepy Hollow Gardens apartment complex at 177 White Plains Road Tuesday in Tarrytown.

The shooting was reported at 7:16 a.m. and the suspect has not been identified, lohud.com said.

The school districts of Irvington, Ardsley, Dobbs Ferry, Hastings-on-Hudson, Tarrytown and Elmsford were on lockout mode as police combed the surrounding area for the suspect. Classes were going on as normal while police activity continues.

In addition, Mamaroneck school officials were informed that the shooter had family ties in Larchmont Acres.

The Ossining school district sent out the following message Tuesday: “We are aware that a few neighboring school districts are currently on lockout due to a police search for an individual. We have been in contact with our Ossining Police Department and will continue to have our schools operate with normal school day activity. However, we will continue to work with our local police department and if we feel the need to change to one of our emergency procedures staff, parents and guardians will be notified immediately.”

The Irvington school district posted an urgent community message on its website that said the district was alerted to an active police investigation in Tarrytown “where a male with a dark complexion, possibly wearing a camouflage jacket is being sought and believed to be armed.”

The district’s schools were put on lock-out, with only students and staff being permitted to enter a school building.
