JCC Camp Counselor Accused Of Having Child Porn

The organization said it conducted background checks each year since the man was hired.

TARRYTOWN, NY — A Jewish community center camp counselor was accused of having child pornography. A message from the Shames Jewish Community Center said that Benjamin Bojemski, 20, was arrested Friday and was charged in the Town of Greenburgh Court with possession and distribution of child pornography.

Bojemski was employed as a counselor in the River Friends Cay Camp program.

Rabbi Andrew Ergas, the JCC’s executive director, said he spoke with Andrew Grascia, a senior criminal investigator with the Westchester County District Attorney’s office, who asked that any questions, concerns or relevant information be shared with him by email or by calling 914-804-0841 or Criminal Investigator Peter C. Martin by email or 914-995-2229.

Ergas said the JCC conducted a background check which included clearance from the state Sex Offender Registry when Bojemski was hired in 2016 and again in 2017 and May 2018.

“We take our responsibility to our members and community very seriously,” Ergas said “in particular as a provider of services to children, we value the trust placed in us.
