Language Ambassadors visit WI students for Language Immersion

Tarrytown Union Free School District

Washington Irving Intermediate School (WI) fifth graders welcomed the Sleepy Hollow High School Language Ambassadors into their auditorium for a special presentation on World Languages. The Language Ambassadors provided insight into different languages and cultures, something the students will learn about when they attend Sleepy Hollow Middle School.

The Language Ambassadors spoke to the students about their own experiences and the importance of being able to communicate with others. They showed the students videos and had a Q&A session.

“The high schoolers were extremely excited to share their love for languages and appreciation for different cultures,” said Lauren Reisner, World Language Department Chair at the Public Schools of the Tarrytowns.

The goal of the assembly was to get the younger students excited about the benefits of studying another language, to provide a glimpse into the course offerings currently available to sixth graders, and inspire the students about the idea of speaking more than one language.

“For some of the high school presenters, the realization that they might have influenced a fifth grader's language choice was not lost on them,” said Ms. Reisner. “It added an extra layer of significance to the experience, knowing that their passion for languages could have a lasting impact on the younger students' educational journeys.”
