Lots of Food to Eat or Take Home at 2016 "Spring Crafts at Lyndhurst"

Approximately 275 craftspeople will participate in the Tarrytown fair.

“Spring Crafts at Lyndhurst” will take place in Tarrytown, rain or shine, on April 29-May 1, 2016. Approximately 275 artists and craftspeople will participate. The show opens each day at 10 a.m. and closes at 5 p.m. on Friday and Sunday and at 6 p.m. on Saturday.

For sale at the fair’s booths will be jewelry, clothing and a large variety of creative and unique handmade objects.

Available too will be an expanded food court and many stands providing snacks to gourmet food and beverages for eating at picnic tables or taking home.

This is the thirty-second annual staging of Spring Crafts at Lyndhurst— the estate was once the home of railroad baron Jay Gould. A similar fall show will be held on September 16-18, 2016.

Admission costs (cash or check accepted only) for a weekend ticket are $12 per adult, $11 for seniors (62 or older), $4 for children (6 to 16) and kids under 6 are admitted free. Parking is free on site and at other nearby parking areas with frequent free shuttle-bus service.

Assistant director Laura Kandel said, “Take-home-food newcomers to the 2016 show include Dorset Maple Reserve, Maya’s Jams, The Nut Lady and the Captain Lawrence Brewing Company.”

“Newly participating as concessions,” she said, “will be Penny Lick Ice Cream, and Twins BBQ Co. Popcorn Man will return under a new name, Herold’s Original Kettle Korn.”

The wares of the food-related exhibitors are described below.

Gourmet “Take-Home” Food Exhibitors

  1. Awesome Specialties of Little Tikes. Dips and spreads to include salsa mixes, soup and chowder mixes, muffin and cookie mixes.
  2. Bella’s Home-Baked Goods. Home baked goods including Italian biscotti, butter toffee, cookies and brownies
  3. Bittersweet Herb Farm. Dips, sauces, jams, oils and balsamic vinegars
  4. Captain Lawrence Brewing Company. Elmsford brewery
  5. Dorset Maple Reserve. Bourbon barrel aged maple syrup

“The show includes one-of-a-kind and limited edition creations in every material imaginable,” Kandel said. “Visitors will see earrings made of sterling silver and stingray; handbags made with airplane cables; scarves made of bamboo; necklaces made of meteorites; pens made of money; and bowls that look like cantaloupes, alongside contemporary craft pottery, wood furniture, handwoven fashions, bronze sculpture, blown glass objects and more.”

Other activities include making Shibumi silk scarves under the guidance of Patricia Disantis, dancing to live music provided by Billboard chart topper The Lindsey Webster Band; participating or watching craft demonstrations by potter Scott Martin and wood turner Don Hart; and exposure to one hundred musical instruments in an interactive musical experience. Activity for the youngsters will include face painting, storytelling, constructing balloon animals, and stilt walkers.

Show attendees can tour the Lyndhurst mansion at half price by getting their hands stamped at the crafts show.
