Motorcyclist Killed on Tappan Zee Bridge Wednesday ID'd

The police investigation said he was driving aggressively and weaving through the traffic.

TARRYTOWN, NY — Police have released the name of the man killed Wednesday in an accident on the Tappan Zee Bridge.

Jose S. Capo, 38, of Nyack, was killed after he lost control of his motorcycle, at approximately 11:23 a.m.

The State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit investigation determined Capo was driving in an aggressive manner and was weaving through traffic.

After he lost control of the motorcycle, he crashed into the rear of an unknown pickup truck.

Police said he was ejected from his vehicle and then was struck by a 2012 Volvo tractor-trailer.

Capo was pronounced dead at the scene by the Westchester County Medical Examiner.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, owned by Sygma Network Inc., of Dublin, OH, was Hashani Haqif, 55, of Harrisburg, PA. He was not injured and no charges are pending, police said.

The accident happened southbound mid-span on the Tappan Zee Bridge.

For most of the afternoon Wednesday two southbound lanes were shut down on the bridge. Traffic in both directions was snarled and Tappen Zee Express service was delayed for up to an hour.

All lanes were reopened in time for the evening commute.
