The Tarrytown under age 11 Mustang girls ran in to superior competition on Friday at the AYSO National Games in Riverside, Ca. Their first game was against under age 12 Long Beach. Long Beach is the AYSO section 11 champion which comprises parts of Southern California including San Diego and East Los Angeles. The Mustangs, missing injured Taylor Macca, battled hard the entire match but were defeated soundly 5-0.
In the second match the Mustangs took on the top AYSO extra u11 team in Arizona from Flagstaff. The Mustangs finally played a team their size, but were unable to cope with the Arizona girl's passing game. In a very physical game Taylor Macca returned for play with her ankle taped, but only lasted 15 minutes before being carried off the field. Sadie Swenson, Lena Swenson, Maya Weitzen, and Julia Costa all suffered minor injuries causing stoppage of play. The Mustangs fought back with several shots on goal including one bouncing off the cross bar. Finally Sophie Sylves-Berry who was promised a puppy by her parents if she scored, brought the Mustangs within one goal with a self created shot in front of the net. Arizona iced the game after appearing to kick the ball out of keeper Julia Costa's hand. The head referee over ruled this foul call and several others from unbiased stand in linesman Jose Costa.
The girls finished their day by hanging out with the younger Tarrytown Strikers at a L.A. Galaxy match. The Mustangs have one tie, 3 loses, and 4 goals scored. Today is the Mustangs last chance for a win against Diamond Head, Hawaii. The Tarrytown Girls return home on Sunday.
