New Pickleball Program to Start in Greenburgh

The game combines elements of badminton, tennis and table tennis.

GREENBURGH, NY — Based on an email suggestion from a constituent, the Theodore Young Community Center will start a Pickleball program Dec. 5.

Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner said he received the email and the center immediately responded by setting the program up.

Pickleball is a racquet sport that combines elements of badminton, tennis and table tennis, Feiner said.

Two, three or four players use solid paddles made of wood or composite materials to hit a perforated polymer ball, similar to a wiffle ball over a net. The sport shares features of other racquet sports, the dimensions and layout of a badminton court and a net and rules similar to tennis, with a few modifications.

Play begins Monday Dec. 5. Monday from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Thursdays from 7:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Fee per resident is $3 per play.
