New York Youth Climate Strike Endorses Mondaire Jones in NY-17
New York Youth Climate Strike cites his bold and progressive policy platform and commitment to climate justice in their endorsement
CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT 17, NY, 4/24/2020 - New York Youth Climate Strike (NYYCS),the NY State Chapter of the national climate justice organization US Youth Climate Strike, has endorsed Mondaire Jones for Congress. Mondaire Jones is a progressive Democratic candidate hoping to represent NY-17 in US Congress and Jones’ bold and progressive policy platform reflects what NYYCS has been continually fighting hard for. NYYCS is proud to endorse Mondaire Jones because the climate crisis is the most expansive and pressing threat to humanity and social justice that our generation will face and we have confidence that Jones will fight hard alongside us for climate justice.
NYYCS chose to endorse Jones because he has continually shown that he will take the fight for climate justice to heart and he has been a vocal supporter of the climate justice movement. At a global climate strike on December 6th, 2019, in Nyack, NY, Jones addressed a mixed crowd of enthusiastic teenagers and adults rallying for climate justice. Jones talked about why he supports the Green New Deal and a just transition from a fossil fuel-focused economy, among other things, citing his relative youth as just one of the reasons he is so passionate about climate justice. “I'm part of a generation that stands to be devastated by the effects of climate change. Career politicians have failed to act with the urgency this crisis requires, so it's up to us to fight to save this planet. My number one priority is a Green New Deal, because if we don't have a planet to inhabit, nothing else matters. That means massive investments in green infrastructure, decarbonizing our economy, and a just transition that ensures that frontline workers and communities aren't left behind” Jones said in a statement to NYYCS about his stance on climate justice and why it is so important to him. Time and time again, Jones has made it clear that he is the climate candidate for NY 17 and will prioritize climate justice and action once elected to Congress.
