No Tappan Zee Bridge For Now

The Assembly ended its legislative session without taking up the bill.

TARRYTOWN, NY — Looks like the Gov. Mario M Cuomo Bridge will remain the name of the Tappan Zee Bridge replacement — at least until the state legislature comes back into session. The state Senate voted in favor of a bill that would have tacked the words “Tappan Zee Bridge” onto the name, just as the previous structure was officially named the Gov. Malcolm Wilson Tappan Zee Bridge.

The senate vote of 40 to 20 happened about 15 minutes after the Assembly ended its legislative session — without bringing its version of the bill to a vote, the Journal News said.

The compromise bill was in response to a petition containing almost 110,000 signatures in favor of changing the bridge’s name back to the Tappan Zee Bridge.

Port Chester resident Monroe Mann organized the petition drive.
