Police Investigating Whether Ardsley Mom Lied About Cancer to Get Money

GREENBURGH, NY - Police are investigating accusations that an Ardsley mother scammed people into giving donations because she said she was dying of cancer.

A GoFundMe page and other methods, including a plea from Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner, netted $60,000 for Shivonie Deokaran, a single mother, according to CBSNewYork.

However, after getting a tip, police asked Deokaran for medical records that could prove her claims.

That prompted Deokaran to close her Dobbs Ferry restaurant and move to Florida.
