Romantic Comedy Novelist Eileen Palma to Talk at the Warner Library on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at 11 a.m.
Romantic comedy novelist Eileen Palma, 37, will talk about her newly published book called Worth the Weight at the Warner Library in Tarrytown on Saturday, July 19 at 11 a.m.
The central character in her novel is Kate Richards, a Manhattan woman who begins a relationship with Jake Moskowitz after he rescues her dog from a fight at a Chelsea dog park. Unknown to Kate, who is the author of a best-selling kids’ cookbook about healthy eating, Jake founded a company she detests and she criticized on her children's television show.
Palma will read passages from her book, describe her own background and tell how she found a publisher. The talk will take place at a meeting of Writers' Forum, a free club for aspiring writers. The public is invited and there is no charge to attend. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing by the author.
Palma said she was inspired to write a romantic comedy by reading the work of Nora Ephron. “I grew up watching Nora Ephron romance comedies like Sleepless in Seattle and When Harry Met Sally,” she said. “I love the way Ephron asks bigger questions like can men and women really be friends? Then she takes the audience on the ride with her to find out the answer.”
Palma grew up in Eastchester, NY, and earned a dual Elementary Education and English degree from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She studied Advanced Novel Writing at Sarah Lawrence College’s The Writing Institute in Bronxville.
