Scores a Plenty as Girls Lacrosse Knocks Eastchester
The Lady Horsemen took an early lead in a 19-6 win.
The girls lacrosse team held their last regular-season home game on Tuesday against Eastchester; they would go on to beat the Eagles 19-6.
The game was all about the team's three senior captains; Rachel Swenson, Taylor Greenberg and Alexis Bateman; who were all recognized for their work on the team before the game started.
"We really pulled up a few girls this year," Sleepy Hollow coach Blair Moynahan said. "It seems like with the senior leadership this team has really gelled and I told them before the game; I've never had a team come together so fast."

Sleepy's cohesiveness showed on the field. The girls came out aggressive and dominated the Eagle's side for the first three minutes of play. The Lady Horsemen were first to get on the board, with two goals in the first minute. The first shot came from senior Alexis Bateman off a Jennifer Angevine assist; the next point came from senior Rachel Swenson.
The Eagles were finally able to get into Sleepy Hollow territory, after a goal by Hollow's Jennifer Angevine, and came away with one point when Delia Hughes converted a pass from Nicole Gendusa. Despite the response, Hollow would continue to easily handle the Eagles.

Shortly after ten minutes of play, Angevine scored her sixth goal, putting Sleepy Hollow up by ten points and allowing the clock to continue running during dead-ball time. Eastchester couldn't make a dent in Sleepy's impressive lead, and at the half, Sleepy Hollow held a comfortable 17 points to Eastchester's 4 points.
In the second half, Hollow slowed the game down, passing and waiting out their opportunities. Eastchester's coach, John Osterhoudt, told his team to get on the attack while the Lady Horsemen were in stall mode. Eastchester had a more aggressive second half on offense and defense – both teams scored only two points in the second half.
Delia Hughes was the top scorer for Eastchester with two goals. Lauren Pinto, in goal for Eastchester, had a number of blocks, but the defense failed to muster any stance.
Osterhoudt went into the match knowing that Sleepy Hollow had already beaten Eastchester this season. He said that his focus wasn't on winning, but building on the Eastchester lacrosse program, a program that is only in its second year.
"The girls have made a great transition," Osterhoudt said. "They work hard, hopefully within the next year or two we'll have a couple more wins on the board."
For Sleepy Hollow, Angevine had seven goals, while Rachel Swenson had six. Marisa Bateman had six assists and Taylor Greenburg and Swenson also assisted on three goals apiece. Sara Rennert, who came in goal the second half, had six saves on the evening. Every senior on the team scored and assisted in the win.
"It was a nice game to send their seniors off with," Moynahan said.
This game leaves Eastchester with a record of 1-14-1 and Sleepy Hollow with a 9-5 record. The Lady Horsemen next play on Thursday against Ardsley.
