Senate OKs Renaming Tappan Zee Bridge After Mario Cuomo

The state Assembly adjourned before taking up the legislation.

TARRYTOWN, NY — The state Assembly adjourned Wednesday in Albany without voting on a bill naming the new Tappan Zee Bridge after Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s father Mario Cuomo. The mandatory three-day waiting period was waived by the governor so the Senate could take up the measure which it OK’d around 11 p.m.

Lawmakers were taken by surprise at the late-night bill proposal, and they aren’t supposed to return to Albany until January, though there are outstanding issues that could change that, the Journal News said.

The bridge is currently named the Governor Malcolm Wilson Tappan Zee Bridge.
