The Dutchess County resident set up accounts on an online auction sites in order to steal from his employer.

GREENBURGH, NY — A Dutchess County man was sentenced for stealing more than $230,000 from a Westchester County car dealership where he worked. Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino Jr. said John Labarbera, 50, of Poughquag, Dutchess County, was sentenced to one year in county jail and restitution, after pleading guilty in February to second-degree grand larceny, a felony.

Labarbera was employed as the parts manager for Curry Acura on Central Park Avenue in Greenburgh.

According to the charges, from approximately May 5, 2011, through March 5, 2015, he stole parts from the dealership and sold them for profit.

Scarpino said Labarbera convinced the dealership’s management to sell automobile parts through the online auction site eBay.com.

With management’s consent, he then set up an account to sell parts on behalf of the dealership.

Using the valid account as cover, and without the dealership’s knowledge, Labarbera set up a separate eBay account which he used to sell parts he stole from the dealership.

Over the course of almost four years, Labarbera would steal automobile parts, sell them on eBay, ship the parts to his buyers via Curry Acura’s FedEx Ground account, accept payments via PayPal and keep the money for himself.

He manipulated the inventory and accounting system of the dealership to cover up his crimes.

The total value of the larceny was $231.317.26. Larbarbera provided $5,658.63 Thursday toward the restitution for a total of $115,658.63 to date. A judgment and order of restitution for the remaining amount of $115,658.63 was signed by the court.
