No. 6 Sleepy Hollow is going to the promised land of high-school basketball as its 54-43 triumph at No. 3 Ardsley Feb. 22 in the Section 1 Class A quarterfinals earns it the right to play in the Final Four at the Westchester County Center in White Plains.

Sleepy Hollow will now play No. 2 Tappan Zee in the semifinals at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 1 at the county center.

"I am ecstatic about the victory for the girls, for the community, for the school, for Mr. Scarpulla our AD," Sleepy Hollow coach Nick Romeo said. "It is so rewarding for me, Ed Stapleton and Emily Brauer as a coaching staff!"

Romeo said the key to the win was having a solid game plan that the team was able to execute to perfection.

"We wanted to slow down Toni Pilla (over 1,000-career points) obviously but Casey Foley is really good as well," Romeo said. "We held her to three points. Also their press is something not to be messed with and we repeatedly beat it which is something we worked on all week."

Now it's on to the county center next week.

"Getting our program to play at the county center is something that Sleepy Hollow girls basketball might never even dreamed of but when I got to Sleepy six years ago, I knew I could lead the girls there if they let me and this current group of girls could not have been more responsive to our coaching staff's direction," Romeo said. "I am so proud of them and us as a team to get to the level we have gotten to at this point."

It wasn't known if this will be the first time a Sleepy girls team will play a final four game at the county center or not.

Either way its been a long time coming and it couldn't happen to a nicer group of players.

"There are only five banners in the Sleepy Hollow gym and none are later than the 1980 girls basketball banner," Romeo said. "I am not sure if they played at the county center in 1980 but that was the last time Sleepy Hollow had some recognition from girls basketball."

"As far as the school goes I think the boys program was at the county center in 2002. But I really think this is unprecedented territory for the girls program."

Stats and game time of the Final Four contest were obtained from Yaron Weitzman's fine work on LoHud's Girls Basketball Blog so check it out here.
