Wray said that the village was in danger of running out of water from its backup sources late last week due in part to ongoing renovations on the New Croton Aqueduct. Because the village's water supply was low, various Department of Public Works Superintendents lobbied the New York City Department of Environmental Protection to allow for the Catskill Aqueduct to be opened so there was adequate water in the area, even though the NYC DEP knew that turbidity levels were high in the system.

The Catskill was reopened to municipalities, but a boil water advisory also went into effect.

"We knew the levels would be high," Wray said. "The logic being it is better to boil water rather than have no water at all."

Village Wants Better Notification System

Trustees agreed that a better notification system was needed to get the word out to local residents about major issues, such as water boil advisories.

The village has set up an opt-in email notification service. To get on the list, follow these directions:

Please go to www.sleepyhollowny.gov,  scroll to the bottom of the web page and you can enter your email address to be part of the program.

The police department is also looking into a , or a notification system similar to the school district's that will allow the maximum number of residents to remain in the loop during important events.

Wray  noted that residents should also spread the word, because many in the community do not have internet or land-line access.

"We have to remember we are all neighbors," he said. "Let people know, we're never going to reach everyone."

Trustees Will Approve St. Patrick's Day Parade

The village has received a formal application for the 15th Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade.

The parade will occur on Sunday, March 13, beginning in Tarrytown at 1:30 p.m. and ending up in Sleepy Hollow.

Maureen McGowan Barbelet of Tarrytown will be the Grand Marshal of the parade.
