2008 Red Comets

The Red Comets played a great game last Sunday against a very competitive Ossining team. The two teams were evenly matched and battled to a 0-0 tie at halftime with great goal keeping from Kim Molina and the Ossining goalkeeper. In the second half, Abby Church broke the tie with a great solo effort. Unfortunately, Ossining bounced back with a goal of their own and the game ended in a 1-1 tie. The Red Comets played their best game of the season. Great Wuerffel and Libby Block both had stand out games, were active and involved throughout the game. The Red Comets are 3-2-1 on the season.

2008 Fusion

Fusion won a squeaker 1-0 away at the Chappaqua Tigers, and improved their record to a lossless 6-0. The lone goal came at 9', when Jack Zhunio turned back a goal kick from the Tigers goalie and passed to Edwin Dutan, who shot for a quick score. Close opportunities were many, such as a crossbar strikes from Justin Paute and numerous shots on goal by Kieran Degen, Julian Patino, Ian Papadopoulos, Pierce Davis and team captain Aiden Lee. Jezrael Panama and Zhunio teamed for a goal which was ultimately called back as offside, and thanks to stellar goalkeeping by Chappaqua, no more points were added to the board.

The real superstars were the Fusion defense. The backfield played by Dutan, Raul Socualya, Dylan Pasato and Dylan Largo ensured that the Tigers rarely entered into scoring territory. First half goalie Papadopoulos and second half goalie Davis saw a few shots each, but otherwise received little pressure at their positions.

Coach George Papadopoulos emphasized to his team the importance of field awareness and of holding one's position to stop any forward progress by their opponent. The defensive players answered this call in an impressive way. Fusion next plays in White Plains on October 29.

2007 Girls Blaze

On Sunday, Blaze met the Eastchester Red Dragons and played an impressive game. Not to be underestimated, the Red Dragons kept pace, had several attempts on goal and pushed the Blaze to bring their best. Not ones to back down, the Blaze girls met this challenge with determination. The hard work they have put in with coaches John Sutherland, Annette O’Hanlon and Chris Junge is paying off. The passing game was strong and the girls kept pressure on the Red Dragons. At the half, the Red Dragons had scored one for a 1-0 lead. The second half was more intense as both teams returned to the field with more focus. Gabby Disney and Michayla Benuscak consistently placed big kicks which helped advance the ball. Emily Aridas covered very well in goal. With an assist from Zoey Murphy, Gemma Fante scored a beautiful goal. In the end, it was a 1-1 tie for the Blaze, bringing their current season scores to 4 wins, 1 loss and 1 tie. It's great to see the girls advance their skills and build confidence throughout this Fall season. Next up: Blaze will host the West Side Red Bulls on Sunday.

2006 Girls Storm

The Storm defeated the (previously) undefeated Shrub Oak Thunder 4-1 with their best effort of the season.

Sadie Diaz scored the first goal off an Emily Orellana throw-in for the only goal of the 1st Half. In the 2nd Half, Orellana scored on a shot from 15 yards and Anastasia Mazon scored after beating a defender to the end line.

“I don’t know how she found the space to get that shot off,” said coach Tom Andruss after the game.

Nellie Rodriguez then scored her first WYSL goal off a give-and-go with Sadie Diaz to put the game out of reach.0

The Storm play the DUSC Blue in Manhattan on Sunday.

2002 Girls Mustangs

Played second place Rye for the second time this season and finished with the same 2-0 result. The Mustangs started strong controlling possession, which led to defender Annie Dineen scoring first off of Britany Alban’s corner kick. Fatigue set in with many players missing and Rye had multiple scoring opportunities. Rye’s best opportunity came when a striker drew 3 defenders to the right flank and managed a cross to an open middle striker. Keeper Julia Costa made the play of the game by leaving her goal and intercepting the pass to end the scoring opportunity. The game remained tight and forward Talia Fante moved back to be a fifth defender to try to hold the lead. Isabella Chambers finally secured the win with an outside shot over the head of the forward positioned Rye keeper. Abigail Oppenheim gets credit for the assist. The Mustang defense of Annie Dineen, Sophie Sylves-Berry, Emma Clarke, Arianna Vizcaino, and keeper Julia Costa earned their 3rd shutout in 6 games. The Mustangs are now in second place in the top division.
