The Sleepy Hollow Football club kicks off its third year Sunday September 11th expanding to 17 teams. The club successfully managed to implement new age change rules and now has teams for children born between 2001 and 2008. Our club is still run by volunteers keeping cost the lowest in the county.

While many people were enjoying summer vacations, two club teams represented New York at the American Youth Soccer Organization National Games. Both teams had to play top competition from all over the country and both teams were placed in divisions with teams one year older than themselves. The games took place in West Palm Beach Florida in 95 degree heat.

The under age 13 girls Mustangs played in a very competitive under age 14 girls division. They lost to two teams from California, one team from Chicago, and tied a tough team from Florida. Lily Rodriguez scored the lone goal against Woodland Hills, California.

The under age 11 boys Legends fared much better in the under age 12 division. They defeated Michigan 1-0 with a goal form Javier Villa; North Carolina 6-0 with goals from Julian Bermeo, Massimo Soto, Javier Villa, Nikhil Welting, and Maximos Matailos; and Florida 5-0 with goals from Nikhil Welting, Justin Cruz, Julian Bermeo, and Maximos Matailos(2). They lost to California 1-3 with Nikhil Weltig scoring and to Hawaii 0-1. Overall they finished in the top half of the competition and scored better than any local team in over 10 years.

With the summer over attention is turned to Westchester competition. Last spring the Legends and the under age 9 girls Blaze brought home division championships in the Westchester Youth Soccer League. On Sunday 17 teams begin a quest to do the same. Soccer is on the rise in Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow!
