Sleepy Hollow Football Club Week 3/Tryouts Begin May 6th

Our local soccer club found success on the field in week 3 with 10 wins, 6 losses, and a tie. It was the first dry Sunday of the spring season and all 17 teams saw action.

Mark your calendars as SHFC club tryouts begin May 6th for most age groups for the 2017-2018 season. The club has grown to accommodate children born between 2000-2009. SHFC is a member of Rivertowns United and AYSO Tarrytown but has separate tryouts, teams, and coaches. SHFC plays and practices at local fields in Sleepy Hollow, Tarrytown, and Pocantico. 2008 Girls Red Comets

Won at Rye 6-0 or 3-0 depending how you score the game. Due to a miscue, the Rye Legend thinking the Comets were short a player started the game with 7 players to what they thought was the Red Comets 7. The Comets quickly jumped out to a 3-0 lead before the Rye Legend realized that the Comets were playing with 8 players. As a result, the game continued but the scores by the Comets were wiped clean. The Comets put in three more goals leaving the official win at 3-0. The goals were provided by Abigail Maceyak, Corina Armster, Samantha Marvin and Samantha Mendietta. Coaches Armster and Block were pleased at how the Comets played the game: spreading the field, staying in position and passing to open players.

2008 Boys River Sharks

Posted their first win of the season last Sunday against the Greenburgh United Panthers 6-0. Henry Warden and Luca Dominguez provided a solid wall of defense and were able to quickly move the ball up field. The first goal of the game was assisted by one of Henry’s long passes from the backfield. Midfielders Josh Ortiz and Jack Uyaguari brilliantly bridged offense & defense with hard work and good positioning earning 3 assists for the midfield. Pablo Quezada & Brandon Quituisaca worked to find open field and were rewarded with some well-placed passing opportunities. Eoghan Glynn and Dhary Sugui used speed and good positioning to keep the pressure on the Panther’s net, Dhary added 1 goal to Eoghan’s 4. Thaddeus Kromelis tended goal in the first half and then helped light up the offense in the second with great midfield passing and 1 goal. Alessandro Soto fought off a barrage of shots on goal; making at least 5 hard won saves as goal tender in the second half.

2007 Boys Dutchmen

Defeated Castleford 1-0 at Hackley field. The Dutchmen were down one player the whole game and managed to win off a corner kick. Fortuitously on Saturday they had spent most of practice working on their corner kicks.

2007 Boys Dynamo

Opened the season missing several of its key players and against a competitive Pelham Warriors side. Despite hard work, particularly by goalkeepers Brian Knox and Jack McCarthy, the Dynamo suffered a 6-0 loss. The Dynamo face Scarsdale Lille next Sunday in Scarsdale at 2:00.

2007 Girls Blaze

After a rain out and a re-scheduled game, the Blaze, coached by John Sutherland, took to the field Sunday for their first game of the spring season. They faced the Rye Rockets and brought a lot of energy and excitement to the match up. Blaze had a strong first half, successfully keeping the play on their side and taking several shots on goal. While the defense was impressive and many attempts were thwarted, Gabby Disney assisted as Gemma Fante landed a beautifully angled goal. It was 1-0 at the half. Facing a re-energized opponent, the pressure was up in second half. Blaze hustled on all fronts, covering the field and making several goal attempts. Rye scored one goal, and was quickly followed by a goal from Zoey Murphy. Final score for this Blaze win was 2-1. Their hard work in the off season is paying off. The Blaze is a strong team who plays with a lot of heart. The Blaze spring line-up includes: Emily Aridas, Michayla Benuscak, Julissa Casiano, Gabrielle Disney, Gemma Fante, Ellie Fox, Cassie Junge, Juliana Marvin, Kayla McGuigan, Elizabeth Molina, Zoey Murphy, Meghan O’Hanlon and Sydney Starkey.

Next week the Blaze meet the New Rochelle Wildfire on Sunday.

2006 Girls Storm

Coached by Kevin Richardson Lost 0-3 in Randalls Island to the Manhattan Rockets. Controversy arose at the game as holes in the net allowed missed shots to the side of the goal enter the net and count as Rocket scores. The Storm next face the Downtown United Soccer Club at Hackley and look to even their win/loss column.

2006 Boys Warriors

Coached by Matt Weidner, Chris Junge and Todd Dorman suffered a tough defeat to the Rye Sonics by a score of 3-1. The teams battled back and forth throughout the first half, with the Warriors getting the first goal on a direct free kick to take a 1-0 lead into the break. The Sonics came out strong in the second half, getting an early goal to tie the game. As the half progressed, the Sonics managed to score two more goals, and while the Warriors continued to fight, they couldn't find the back of the net. Next week the Warriors face another challenging test as they host FC Somers.

2006 Boys Firebolts

Firebolts U11B, coached by Ricardo Gonzalez, played against White Plains Dragons at George Washington ES in White Plains. The Firebolts displayed an accurate passing game, good defense, very combative midfield and an aggressive offense. After a nice combination of passes, Niko Wang scored first assisted by Ollie Gonzalez. In the second half the Firebolts kept the momentum, with a persistent attack bringing the score up to 4-0. The final three goals were: Ollie Gonzalez assisted by Niko Wang, Ollie Gonzalez (penalty kick) and Alex Lozada with a great shot from outside the box. Final score 4-1. They next face the Castleford Fury in Armonk

2005 Boys Legends

After two rainouts finally opened their Division 1 season at home to defending league champions Edgemont. After taking an early lead from a Hernan assisted Justin goal the Legends fell behind to some fine goals from Edgemont and trailed 4-1 at half time. The boys really stepped it up in the 2nd half, scored 2 from Nikhil and Hernan but pushing for an equalizer conceded a last minute goal on the break to fall 5-3. There were lots of positives and plenty to work on in training this week also. Standout player for the week was Jai with a tenacious and skilled performance for the whole game.

2005 Girls Cyclones

Coached by Mike Levine, Nick Tsilibes and Tracey Koch won 5-3 against the Mamaroneck Shooting Stars in a competitive game. Mamaroneck scored first, with the Cyclones tying the game with a goal by Isabella Levine. The Cyclones went up 3-1 with 2 goals from Thalia Tsilibes, but Mamaroneck battled back to tie the game 3-3 with 5 minutes left. Thalia Tsilibes scored 2 more goals, bringing the score to 5-3, totaling 4 goals for Tsilibes. Caitlyn O'Hanlan played a great defensive game, stopping many runs from the Shooting Stars. The Cyclones next play against their sister club team Rivertown Wildcats on April 30th

2004 Boys Argentina

Won 6-2 at Pelham Condors. Playing a larger team with multiple subs, SHFC Argentina endured a hot match with no subs. Goals from Alex G., Danny D., Sebastian and quality assists from Gabriel, Alex S. and Justin made all the difference. A strong defense anchored by Dan T., David, Oliver and Lucas. There was fantastic goalkeeping by Gabriel and David to protect the lead throughout the match. Alex S. played multiple positions and was solid throughout. Argentina completed 300 passes and had multiple scoring opportunities. Quality training is beginning to make a big difference in playing style. Sunday they travel to Mahopac for another away match. Argentina is undefeated and lead the division in scoring and least goals allowed. Head coaches are Michael and Luis.

2004 Boys River Titans

Are undefeated after their first three games. The Titans consist of the following skilled and committed players: Kyan, Julian, Zach, Jason, Jeff, Andres, Henry, Matthew, Maximos, Oliver, Brandon, Carlo, Javier and Sean . The Titans practice three times a week, striving to improve and dominate through hard work. The Titans coaches, Scott Burnett and Pepe Monteforte, are dedicated to helping each player become better players, individually and as an asset to the team. GO TITANS!!!

2004 Girls Hurricane

Coached by Max Verna remain undefeated beating Pleasantville 5-1. They next face Riverdale.

2003 Girls Strikers

Coached by Matt Evans, Arjen Mets, and Matt Weidner lost 1-2 to second place Yonkers on the road. They look to climb in the standings Sunday against Pelham.

2002 Girls Mustangs

Coached by John Sutherland faced top ranked Yorktown missing 5 Mustang players. Yorktown was undefeated, averaging 5 goals a game, and had yet to allow a goal. The Mustangs started strong controlling possession and putting pressure on the heavily favored visitors. In the second half the Mustangs actually found themselves with a 1 woman advantage but fatigue set in and Yorktown was controlling the midfield. The Mustang defense of Annie Dineen, Sophie Sylves-Berry, Emma Clarke, Grace Ryan, and Olivia Hille stepped up as keeper Julia Costa was outstanding as usual and Yorktown was deprived a score. The Mustang offense broke through late bouncing a ball off the crossbar into the goal before the Yorktown keeper recovered the ball. Everyone in the crowd saw the score except the out of position referee who ruled the ball did not completely cross over the line. The Mustangs earned an impressive tie and find themselves competing well in the top division. Next week the Mustangs will be favored when they travel to Somers and hope to climb in the standings.

2002 Boys Los Gauchos

Won 6-0 at Harrison United. Los Gauchos had one substitute playing on hot turf and jumped to a 4-0 lead at halftime, despite multiple missed shots on goal. They scored two goals in early 2nd half and played keep away the rest of the match. Los Gauchos completed 371 passes and dominated throughout as they pressed Harrison Utd in their own half. Goals by Paul, Mateo, Franklin and Victor came from excellent passing. There was quality play from the defensive backline of David, Billy, Ethan and Nik, plus quality passing and goalkeeping by Rene. The midfield controlled the match led by Jonathan, Mateo and Dylan. Next Sunday they travel to Scarsdale for their next Match. They currently lead the division in scoring with 21 goals and only 3 against and are undefeated at 3-0, with two shutouts already. Head coaches are Bill and Luis. Training attendance has been excellent this season.

2001 Boys Tornados

Coached by Gary Fairley and Herbert Weltig lost a close match 0-1 to first place undefeated Ossining. The boys next face New Rochelle, who they are currently tied with in the standings at 4th place.
