2008 Girls Red Comets

Red Comets put their two recent loses behind them this past weekend first with a 0-0 tie against the Eastchester Crush on Saturday and then with a 4-0 win on Sunday against the Rye All Stars.

Saturday, the Red Comets held tight on defense behind the outstanding goal keeping of Kate Livingston and Abigayle Maceyak. Complementing them were Jhoselyn Pugo and Abigail Church who were fantastic in reining in any offensive surge by the Crush.

On Sunday, after two and a half games without scoring a goal, the Red Comets said enough was enough, picked up their resolve, fought hard and jumped out with a goal 39 seconds in by Samantha Marvin. Abigayle Maceyak scored the next two. Later in the game, Samantha Mendieta, positioned perfectly in front of the goal launched an unstoppable kick to finish the scoring for the game at 4-0. A good weekend for the Comets overall, scoring big on Sunday and not allowing a goal in two games within twenty four hour.

The Red Comets record improved to 4-2-1. With two games to go, they play two tough opponents, both from Pelham. The first against the Pelham Gazelles who the Red Comets tied and lost to in the fall and the second to the Pelham Devils who they lost to three weeks ago. The Red Comets and their coaches Joe Block and Sven Armster look forward to the challenge.

2008 Boys River Sharks

It was a busy but successful weekend for the River Sharks. On Saturday morning, they had a make-up game against Mamaroneck. The game was back and forth through the early part of the first half with the River Sharks creating a couple of chances due to the midfield work of Joshua Ortiz and Jack Uyaguari but failed to capitalize on these chances. Mamaroneck also created a number of chances but due to the strong goalkeeping of Thaddeus Kromelis and strong defensive work of Luca Dominguez, Henry Warden and Timmy Engelman, they were kept at bay. Midway through the first half, River Sharks took the lead on a goal by Jayden Perez and went into halftime leading 1-0. Shortly after the start of the second half, Mamaroneck equalized but River Sharks continued to push forward and were rewarded for their efforts with goals from Thaddeus Kromelis and Abraham Achkar. With Alessandro Soto now in goal sweeping up any through balls, River Sharks held on for a 3-1 win.

On Sunday the River Sharks traveled to nearby Hawthorne to face Mount Pleasant Mayhem. This was an evenly contested game. Mayhem took an early lead but the River Sharks fought back and equalized with a goal from Eoghan Glynn following a cross from Keaton Greenberg after a strong run down the right. Just before half time following a mix up in defense, Mayhem got their second goal to be leading 2-1 at half time. The River Sharks came out strong in the second half and midway through the second half equalizied again with Eoghan Glynn scoring his second of the game. The River Sharks continued to drive forward with strong runs from Keaton Greenberg, Thaddeus Kromelis and Dhary Suqui ably supported by Pablo Quezadia and Brandon Quituisaca. Their hard work paid off with goals scored by Joshua Ortiz and Jack Uyaguari. The defense of Luca Dominguez, Henry Warden and Timmy Engelman held strong limiting Mayhem's opportunities on goal. with Alessandro Soto making the clearances and saves in goal when required. Mayhem did score late on, but the River Sharks held on for a well deserved 4-3 win.

2006 Girls Storm

The Storm improved to 4-2-0 with its win over the White Plains Black 5-3. The Storm’s balanced attack featured five different players scoring goals. The offensive success was a change for a team that had scored seven goals all season.

The Storm secured an early 2-0 lead with goals by Ashley Richardson (a strike outside the box) and Emily Orellana (a strong drive through the defense). White Plains responded with two goals of its own when it caught the Storm overextended offensively. Elsa Block ended the high scoring 1st Half with a goal from the left-side that overwhelmed the White Plains goalie. Elsa was happy.

Midway through the 2nd Half White Plains tied the score 3-3. The last ten minutes of the game belonged to the Storm. Sophia McLaurin charged the net to knock in a goal after a deflection by the White Plains goalie. Samantha Fajardo was pushed from behind in the box and made the penalty shot that followed.

The Storm have three remaining games over the next two weekends.

2005 Girls Cyclones

On Saturday and Sunday, the U12 Cyclones Girls coached by Mike Levine, Nick Tsilibes and Tracey Koch had two victories, completing a very successful weekend for the Cyclones.

On Saturday the Cyclones played a very complete game, winning 4-1 against the Manhattan Breakers. Angie Santos, Diana Cordero, Belle Murphy and Thalia Tsilibes each scored a goal, and the Cyclones played tremendous defense, giving up very few shots on goal.

On Sunday, the Cyclones played a very competitive game against the Pelham Panthers, winning 4-3. The game went back and forth all game, with the Cyclones scoring the deciding goal in the last 7 minutes.

Thalia Tsilibes scored all 4 goals and played a tremendous game. Ywomie Mota played goalie for the first time and excelled.

The Cyclones next play on Sunday against a top team in the division, the Yonkers Orioles.

2005 Boys Legends

U12 Boys Legends played twice over the weekend, beating Pleasantville by 2-0, with Justin and Kieran scoring and buoyed by shut out keeping from Kenneth and Tito with Kenneth demolishing an opposing penalty kick. On Sunday, the boys played away to league leaders Edgemont and went down by a 6-1 score-line to a very strong team. Julien returned from injury to pop home a rebound and all the boys put in huge effort up to the final whistle. Legends sit in 2nd place with 2 games to play..

2004 Boys River Titans

The B04 River Titans played away against The Rye Raptors . The Titans won 7-5 , maintaining first place position for their division .

2004 Boys Argentina

Faced undefeated Somers Vipers for the division title. A tough match against a very physical and larger opponent who are very well coached. SHFC Argentina completed nearly 300 passes and defended extremely well. Their best match of the season overall. Leading 4-0 at halftime and achieving a 6-0 victory under a steady rain. This is SHFC Argentina's 5th shutout of the season and allowed Somers only 5 shots on goal. An aggressive backline of Sebastian, David, Peter, Braulin and Daniel denied any serious opportunities for the opponents. Quality passing from Oliver, Gabriel, Danny and Gabriel provided six goals for Alex.

Team captains Alex and Sebastian lead by example. SHFC Argentina has only 12 active players on the roster and has played with dedication and focus this season. A quality training methodology has produced a winning season and a division title.

SHFC Argentina finish the season with two away matches at Rye and Mount Pleasant.

2002 Girls Mustangs

Traveled to North Salem to take on the third ranked Club team in Westchester. The Sparks had won three straight against the Mustangs with the last trip ending in a 1-4 beat-down. Despite missing five players, the Mustangs possessed the ball for most of the first half, but a defensive mistake allowed North Salem to have a familiar 1-0 lead. In the second half the Mustangs appeared fatigued until Isabella Chambers stole a ball from the Sparks fullback and passed it to Talia Fante. Talia faked out two center backs, created her own shot, and tied up the score. The reinvigorated Mustangs had the super-talented Sparks on their heels when center-back Annie Dineen lobbed a shot toward the North Salem Keeper. The ball was deflected out to rebound-hunter Sophia Khosrowshahi who put the Mustangs ahead. The Mustangs continued to play with energy, but the Sparks answered with a rebound of their own, tying the game at two. Britany Alban almost had the game winner when her shot from the left hit the right crossbar. The game ended in a 2-2 tie cementing the Mustang's position in the top half of the top division, tied for third place. Next week the Mustangs will again be underdogs when they hope to avenge a 0-5 loss to the second place premier White Plains United.

2002 Boys Los Gauchos

Hosted Yorktown Chargers. Won 5-1. Completed 340 passes. Had multiple scoring opportunities during the 1s half. Tied 1-1 at halftime. Scored 4 goals in the 2nd half to put away a very defensive opponent with long stretches of possession and quality passing. Quality play from the entire squad allowed only a few shots on goal from Yorktown, who managed to score only via a PK. Los Gauchos pressed their opponent the entire match. Great goals from Franklin, Victor and Ethan. Playmaker Mateo had a hand in 5 goals. Backline was anchored by David, Jhonatan, Billy and Kevin. Frontline of Jack, Paul, Victor and Franklin put on an excellent display. Great goalkeeping from Diego. Midfielders Mateo, Dylan and Jhonatan did an excellent job overall. Los Gauchos wrap-up their season next Sunday when they travel to Port Chester.
