Sleepy Hollow High School Students Receive "Commended Student" Honor

Four Sleepy Hollow High School Students receive "Commended Student" in the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Approximately 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise including four from Sleepy Hollow High School (SHHS). In order to be named this honor these students must demonstrate outstanding potential for academic success.

"These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation,” commented a spokesperson for NMSC. “We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success."

The four students are:

• Sean T. Dickason
• Nina N. Lyppens
• Sumiran Margolis
• Joseph J. Weitzen

Although they will not continue in the 2024 competition for National Merit Scholarship (NMSC) awards, Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 students who entered the 2024 competition by taking the 2022 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

"To be named a National Merit Scholar commended student is a great honor for these students and our school. It is a testament to the hard work that our students and faculty continue to do,” said Dr. Deborah Brand, Principal of SHHS. “We are very proud of Jai, Sumi, Nina and Sean and know they will continue to achieve great things."
