Sleepy Hollow Renews Service-Export Deals
Ambulance Corps and police doing limited work outside village.
Renewing a pair of ongoing agreements, Sleepy Hollow’s board of trustees agreed Tuesday to provide services to the county and Town of Mount Pleasant.
Mount Pleasant will pay the village $7,364 a year to answer ambulance calls in Pocantico Hills while the county will provide training for village police officers in exchange for their work as police academy instructors.
The ambulance renewal comes as the village board, struggling to work around a volunteer shortage in the Ambulance Corps ranks, looks to hire an Emergency Medical Technician to fill gaps in the coverage schedule.

The paid EMT would put in 12-hour days, and officials had looked at the hours as a way to fill those holes in the volunteer schedule. But Trustee Jennifer Lobato-Church, who chairs the board’s public safety committee and has been conferring with ambulance officials elsewhere, disclosed Tuesday that the EMT’s shift must be worked over 12 consecutive hours. “So, you can’t do six hours in the morning, six hours at night,” she pointed out.
The Police Training Academy, located in Valhalla, offers entry-level and in-service training for law enforcement officers in Westchester and from the surrounding area. While the academy maintains its own roster of instructors—primarily police officers drawn from the county’s Department of Public Safety—it also taps certified police instructors from local law enforcement agencies.
