Sleepy Hollow Welcomes Baxter to Assistant Principal Job

Former English teacher Anthony Baxter is now the new assistant principal for Sleepy Hollow High School.

This upcoming school year brings new change to Sleepy Hollow High School. Anthony Baxter will be the new assistant principal of the high school, replacing Alan Alterbaum, recently retired.

Baxter has had experience in not only being a principal at Iona Prep and Blind Brook High School, but also coaching and teaching at Iona Prep and Rye Middle and High School.

Baxter has been seen walking throughout the red and white halls since 2007 when he first came to teach English but you could have also found him on the field coaching the modified football coach and junior varsity and varsity basketball.

When practices were not in session, Baxter also advised Sleepy Hollow’s student newspaper, Hoofprints and was a co-advisor for the literary magazine, Shadow and Substance.

After taking some time to teach, “it seems like the perfect time and place for me to re-enter the world of educational administration… but I do believe that I am still in a position to deliver instruction and I am simply expanding my classroom, field, and court to include the entire high school," says Baxter.

Unfortunately, Baxter will be unable to help out with extracurricular activities anymore; but, he plans on expanding the role of assistant principal to more than attendance and discipline.

“I’d like to be more involved in student life, including student activities, government, and athletics," said Baxter.

While Baxter is looking forward to the upcoming school year, “my hope for all of our students is that they take advantage of the excellent opportunity they have here at Sleepy Hollow," said Baxter.

“I feel as though I have a great deal to contribute to the life of the high school and can’t wait to get started," says Baxter.
