It took a few years, but Sleepy Hollow has finally become a legit contender on the Class A level.
The Headless Horsemen — a former perennial power in Class B — improved to 5-1 with a 41-21 homecoming win over Lakeland (3-3) on Saturday afternoon.
As it stands, Sleepy Hollow is the No. 1 seed out of League 1 in the upcoming Section 1 Class A playoffs, according to the Piner System formula.
After a two-year postseason hiatus, the Horsemen are back in a big way.

Tarrytown AYSO girls soccer update comes from Michael Weitzen:
Tarrytown AYSO under age 10 girls travel team defeated the North Salem Tigers 1-0 at Joe Bohrdrum park in North Salem on Saturday. This is the third shutout of the year for the Mustangs and brings their record to 3-1 on the year. Versatile Julia Costa scored the lone goal with a left footed power shot from 25 yards out, while splitting time on offense, defense, and in goal.
Offensive pressure was unrelenting throughout the game with additional strong efforts from Caroline Grimes, Maya Weitzen, Samantha Livingston, Sammy Nutig, and Emma Clarke.
The Mustang's usual stout defense was led my Maddy Navin, Annie Dineen, Catherine Grimes, and Sadie Swenson. Julia Costa, Catherine Grimes, and Maddy Navin each contributed toward the perfect effort at keeper as well.
The girls return home this Saturday, October 20th, to take on rival Ossining at Losee park. These two teams last saw each other in postseason play and fought to a scoreless tie.
