SHFC Gators
The 2012 SHFC Gators had their second game of the young spring season on Sunday, hosting the Pelham Wolfpack at Washington Irving School. These teams split two very close matches in the fall, and this one turned out to be just as competitive.

Pelham got on the board early in the first half, making it 1-1 Wolfpack. Despite multiple runs into the Pelham end and shots on goal, the Gators did not score in the first half, a credit to Pelham's stout defense and solid goalkeeping. Pelham scored again shortly after the second half kicked off, putting the Gators in a 2-0 hole.
As we have grown accustomed to, the Gators didn’t back down, and continued to pressure the Pelham defense. This began to pay dividends as the Gators won multiple corner kicks in the second half. With 10 minutes left in the game, Ella Pietrosanti rose high, and athletically deposited a beautifully lofted corner from Melody Rodriguez into the back of the net to bring the Gators to within 1 goal, at 2-1. Feeding off that momentum, Oli Montolio then wrestled possession from the Pelham defense at mid-field, made a run, and left the ball off for Evie Mackey, who finished the job with a long strike to the left cover of the net, tying the match at 2 with about 5 minutes left.

Despite the best efforts of the Gators, Pelham then fought back with two quick goals as time wound down, to finish the scoring at 4-2. The Gators are back in action next weekend with two contests on their slate. They travel to Rye to take on the SYSC Raiders in a NYS Cup contest. Then on Sunday, the girls are back to league play, facing off against the Shrub Oak Hurricanes at home.
SHFC Fusion
The boys 2008 SHFC Fusion has kicked off its spring season in Division 1 of its U14 age group. Week 1 saw Fusion host its rival Shrub Oak Fusion in a very contentious game. In an excellent first week showing, SFHC Fusion ultimately prevailed in this tough game 3-2. Fusion hosted Olympiacos in week 2, and both teams played to a hard-fought 0-0 tie. In week 3, Fusion hosted the Rye Reds and ultimately came away with a 2-1 victory. Fusion will play Munay on May 2, who are currently leading the division.
Fusion is comprised of Kieran Degen, Luca Dominguez, Edwin Dutan, Jonathan Figueroa, Eoghan Glynn, Dylan Largo, Aiden Lee, Sebastian Londono, Joshua Ortiz, Ian Papadopoulos, Jayden Perez, Pablo Quezada, Cillian Reid, Raul Socualaya, Alessandro Soto and Luke Tonaj. They are coached by Mike Degen, Mike Glynn and George Papadopoulos.
SHFC Blaze
The girl’s varsity SHFC Blaze has had a strong start to the season. The first game was away at Eastchester, and the Blaze came away with a 6-0 victory. In their second game of the season, the Blaze hosted the LMFC Waves. Goals scored by Lizzy Molina, Sage Wiley, Sammi Marvin, Gemma Fante, Meghan O’Hanlon and Ellie Fox. With Emily Aridas in goal, and the support of the entire fielded team – Daisy Star, Bella Vinces, Ashley Richardson, Juliana Marvin, Cassie Junge – it was decisive 6-0 win.
We look forward to the season ahead and the active play of the entire Blaze team including: Gabby Disney, Zoey Murphy, Abby Church, Bianca-Parnetti Lopez, Corinna Armster, Jhoselyn Pugo, Julianna Largess, Julissa Cassiano, Kayla McGuigan, Lila Berkowitz, Lily Wurster and Samantha Fajardo.
The Blaze, coached by John Sutherland, will take on Tru Tekkers Liverpool on Sunday, May 1 at 9:00 am at Sleepy Hollow High School.
