Super Bowl Sunday Storm: Snow Forecast Changes

The region could see all forms of winter precipitation during the day Sunday.

It looks like the weather on Sunday will be a messy winter mix, depending, of course, on where you are in the Hudson Valley. After a cold morning, it’s likely we won’t see any precipitation — except for a few scattered snow showers — until noon or so.

“Guidance suggests that the snow begins between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.,” Hudson Valley Weather posted on Facebook. “With the snow starting in the Catskills and higher elevation of the western HV between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m..”

By mid- to late afternoon, temperatures will rise enough for the snow to change to rain from south to north.

The National Weather Service isn’t calling for any snow in southern Westchester for Sunday — it's all rain.

For northern Westchester, Rockland and Putnam counties, the forecast is calling for daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch followed by an additional quarter to a half inch of rain over the nighttime hours.

For the mid-Hudson Valley, there could be less than a half inch of snow during the day, with another half inch overnight. Rain, possibly mixing with snow after 3 a.m., will gradually end.
